Former Chief Information Officer, Central Synagogue
Paula L. Simon ’68 has retired from her position as chief information officer of Central Synagogue in Manhattan and from her position as vice president and chief technology officer of the Wildlife Conservation Society in the Bronx, New York.
Previously, she was managing director and CTO of MBIA (Municipal Bond Insurance Association).
She was general manager of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company's Rensselaer Information Systems Center in Troy, New York, from 1996 to 1999. Prior to that assignment, Simon was a key participant in MetLife's re-engineering effort. Prior to that, she was the general manager of the company's Scranton Information Systems Center in Pennsylvania. Simon joined MetLife from Dow Jones Telerate, where she served as vice president, managing projects relating to Telerate's international network.
She served as information systems director for Cushman & Wakefield, a full-service commercial and industrial real estate firm, from 1983 to 1988, as a consultant with Arthur D. Little from 1979 to 1983, as a member of the technical staff at The Mitre Corporation from 1974 to 1979, and at Honeywell from 1969 to 1974.
Simon received a B.S.E.E. degree, cum laude, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1968, an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1969, and an MBA from Boston University in 1977. She is past president of the Rensselaer Alumni Association and has long been involved with various RAA committees. She received the Rensselaer Alumni Association's 1982 Alumni Key Award, the 1996 Albert Fox Demers Medal, and the 2013 Distinguished Service Award. Simon is a member of Rensselaer's Amos Eaton Society of Patroons.
