Nancy S. Mueller founded Nancy’s Specialty Foods in 1977 and was president for 22 years until selling the company in July, 1999. The company has subsequently been sold to Kraft Heinz Company, NA. Nancy’s is the largest processor and marketer of frozen quiche products in the world. Nancy’s is most famous for Nancy’s Petite Quiche, a superior tasting, premium quality, affordable, convenient appetizer developed by the former chemist.
Mueller received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Russell Sage College in 1965. She was employed by Syntex Corporation as a research chemist and was a community volunteer until she started Nancy’s. She serves on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Opera and the American Prairie Reserve, as well as Rensselaer.
Her honors include: 2018 Lifetime of Achievements Award, Avenidas; 2016 Distinguished Service Award, Rensselaer Alumni Association; 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Severino Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; 1999 Enterprising Woman of the Year Award, National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Silicon Valley Chapter; 1997 Laureate for the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in Santa Clara County; 1997 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year – Trailblazer Award; 1998 NAWBO, San Francisco Chapter; 1996 Women of Vision Award from the Career Action Center.
Mueller is a member of the George M. Low Society of Patroons of Rensselaer.
She is the wife of late trustee Glenn M. Mueller ’64.
