Jackson Tai ’72 is a retired non-executive director of Eli Lilly and Company (10 years), Mastercard Incorporated (15 years), and HSBC Holdings plc (8 years), where he chaired the Group Risk Committee.
Tai served as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DBS Group Holdings and DBS Bank from June 2002 to December 2007. He joined DBS as Chief Financial Officer in July 1999 and was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2001. DBS Bank is one of Asia’s largest financial services institutions.
Prior to joining DBS, Tai spent 25 years at J.P. Morgan & Co. Incorporated (1974–1999). During his tenure, he established the firm’s Japan capital markets business in Tokyo; founded its global real estate investment banking business in New York; served as Senior Officer for Asia Pacific, based in Tokyo; and served as Senior Officer for the Western United States, based in San Francisco.
He previously served as a non-executive director of The Bank of China, Singapore Airlines, NYSE Euronext, ING Groep N.V., CapitaLand, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., the Islamic Bank of Asia, and Jones Lang LaSalle.
Tai currently serves as a director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of WuXi Biologics (Shanghai) and Pony.ai (Shenzhen). He is also a director of two biotech start-ups in the Greater New York area, SEED Therapeutics and Novita Pharmaceuticals.
In the not-for-profit sector, Tai is a Trustee of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he chairs the Investment Committee. He is also a director of the New York Philharmonic, where he chairs the Audit Committee, and a director of the Metropolitan Opera. He previously served on the Harvard Business School Asia Pacific Advisory Board and the Harvard China Advisory Board, and as a director of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the San Francisco Symphony.
Tai received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1972 and an MBA from Harvard University in 1974. He was born and raised in Chinatown, New York.
