He subsequently became executive vice president of Columbia Electronic Cable, a division of Avnet. He became president of Pawtucket Fasteners in 1972, the predecessor of Vertex Distribution which he sold to DXP Enterprises (DXPE, NASDQ). He is a Commissioner of the Providence Board of Investment Advisors, a Director of the Warren Alpert Foundation, where he also chairs its Investment Committee, and a Director of Strahl & Pitsch LLC, subsidiary of Canadian International Group, Inc. Hirsch has been Chair of the Rhode Island Foundation, director of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island and Connecticut, a member of the Providence Police Advisory Board, Rhode Island chair of AIPAC, and lead Director of Sage Parts Plus Inc. His past service includes serving as trustee for the Rhode Island Council on Economic Education, past president of the Jewish Federation of Rhode Island, past national vice chair of United Jewish Appeal, past chairman of the Miriam Hospital Foundation, past campaign chairman for J.F.R.I., past national chairman for the Rensselaer Annual Fund, past vice president for the Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island, co-chair of the Wheeler School Centennial Fund, and past associate chairman of the National Fastener Distributors Association. Hirsch was a recipient of the Rensselaer Alumni Association's Albert Fox Demers Medal in 1983 and is a member of the George M. Low Society of Patroons of Rensselaer.
