I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mary Simoni as Acting Provost, effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Simoni has served as Dean of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences since October 2011. 

As Dean, Dr. Simoni developed new approaches to Institute core curricular requirements through interdisciplinary inquiry-based learning, stabilized the resource base of the School, created new faculty positions to strengthen existing curricula, appropriately resourced existing programs, created interdisciplinary research programs, and participated in Middle State Commission on Higher Education accreditation. She also collaborated with Institute leadership and faculty on the strategic planning process, oversaw Administrative Services and Operations, Business Office, Information Technology, Program Development, and Student Services. She has extensive fundraising experience through alumni events and donor cultivation in partnership with Institute Advancement, and led the School to become recognized as an All Steinway School.

From 2004 to 2011, she was Associate Dean of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance at the University of Michigan. She served as affiliated faculty in Design Science at the University of Michigan and served as Co-Director for the joint research program between the College  of Engineering and the School of Music, Theatre & Dance at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Simoni has a B.Mus, M.Mus, and Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
