Interim Vice President for Strategic Communications and External Relations

The vice president for Strategic Communications and External Relations is responsible for the advancement of public understanding, advocacy, and the reputation of Rensselaer, its educational opportunities, research, and the Institute’s global importance in technology, science, engineering, math, pedagogy, and the arts.

Prior to joining Rensselaer, Gary served as executive vice president for marketing and communications for the National Basketball Association (NBA); senior vice president for communications and business development for the American Museum of Natural History; executive vice president and assistant to the president for the global communications consulting firm, Rubenstein Associates; vice president for public affairs for Battery Park City Authority of New York; and as chief of public information for the New York Department of Parks & Recreation. Gary received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Biology from New York University (NYU), as well as a Master of Arts in Journalism from NYU.
