United Way Thank You Taping
To all of our United Way fundraising campaign volunteers — thank you for doing so much to make this year’s campaign a success.
Together, we have raised $70,170 for the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. This includes $5,400 from our virtual Rensselaer Runs United 5K Race, and more than $500 from two Dine & Dash events.
Although the limitations of the pandemic kept us from hosting many of our most popular fundraisers this year — including the 50/50 raffles at the hockey games, the Thanksgiving lunch, and our drives at the Community Fair — your efforts were more important than ever, because the need is greater than ever.
I am very grateful to my co-chairs:
- Richie Hunter, Vice President for Strategic Communications and External Relations;
- Jacqueline Farmer of the Division of the Chief Information Officer; and
- Nicole Durrick of our School of Engineering.
I also want to recognize our coordinators:
- Tracey Leibach of Strategic Communications and External Relations; and
- Lisa Martin of our School of Engineering;
And I thank our Steering Committee Members and all our volunteers for your commitment and tenacity.
As you know, the pandemic has imposed many hardships on our neighbors. Your efforts for the United Way are helping struggling families to meet their basic needs for food, shelter, safety, health care, and education that offers children a foundation for success.
In this unusual and fraught year, all of you have had to give more of yourselves, and all of you have more than risen to the occasion.
I am so proud of your kindness and deep sense of community. That is the Rensselaer way! And I so look forward to working with all of you in 2021, and to coming together, in person, to share the joy of giving.
