Rensselaer Runs United 5K
I thank all of you for coming out for the third annual Rensselaer Runs United 5K.
Our run today will benefit the 2-1-1 program of the United Way of the Greater Capital Region. With 2-1-1, anyone in our region can call at any time of day to be directed toward help — whether they need food, shelter, or a safe place to be; childcare or eldercare; substance abuse treatment or mental health services; employment, job training, or tax advice; or just to ask where they can help by volunteering.
In truth, the people of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute always respond to the call, as well — and so many of our faculty, staff, administration, and students contribute both energy and resources to their neighbors through the United Way.
Today, I expect the energy contribution to be particularly impressive.
But, as we all know, by supporting the United Way, we gain as much as we give. We each have the satisfaction of serving others. We do it together and strengthen our own Rensselaer family. And today, as an added bonus, we even get a workout!
I thank all of our runners and walkers for revving themselves up on this fall morning.
May the race go to the fleetest — and may all the rest of us enjoy the day!
