As we celebrate this holiday season, and as we bring 2020 to a close, I want to pause to say thank you for your vital contributions in making this year a success. To acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of our faculty and staff on both the Troy and Harford campuses, we will be closed on Thursday, December 24. This closure and the winter break closing will permit members of the Rensselaer community to begin to recognize this holiday season in the spirit it is intended.
There may be staff, in essential academic and administrative departments, who will be required to work on Thursday, December 24 in order to support business operations, and to support students who will remain on campus. The staff designated as essential will be allowed equal time off on or before January 8, 2021. Each Vice President and Dean is responsible for designating the applicable time off for staff who were designated as essential and required to work during the early closing. In addition, I ask that the Vice President for Student Life provide the necessary services to any on-campus or off-campus students who may require assistance during the holiday and winter break closing.
Please post this communication conspicuously to inform faculty, staff, students, visitors, and vendors of this closing.
The time off for staff for the Institute closure on Thursday, December 24, 2020, should be coded on payroll timesheets as “other paid time” (OTH). The same code should be used for alternate time off taken by January 8, 2021, by staff deemed essential and who work on December 24.
Please be advised that staff who do not report to work for their normal work shift; or who have scheduled “paid time off” (PTO); or who have requested bereavement leave on or before Thursday, December 24, 2020, are not eligible to receive “other paid time.”
