From the President's Desk
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is committed to protecting the health of all of our students. Thanks to our risk-informed planning, and comprehensive health and safety protocols, we have managed to keep the COVID-19 case rate on our Troy campus extremely low.
Athletic events are a special time for our student athletes and their families, and should we earn an opportunity for post-season competition, we look forward to welcoming the families of our athletes, as well as our visiting athletes’ families, to campus to watch their post-season outdoor games in person.
For post-season outdoor games, to continue to protect the health and safety of everyone in attendance, the following requirements must be met and adhered to:
Special Event Pre-Registration
A cap of four family guests per student athlete has been established. Additionally, only family members over age 12 will be allowed. All guests must pre-register through an online registration portal in the Athletics Department.
All guests must sign a liability waiver as part of their pre-registration process.
Documentation of COVID Vaccination and Negative Test Results
Per New York State policy, existing CDC best practices, and Institute protocols, all approved family members planning to be in attendance will be required to provide evidence of proof of COVID-19 vaccination. They also will be required to provide proof of a negative PCR test in the 48 hours prior to game time.
On-Site Special Event Protocols
While on site, all spectators are required to follow university protocols. Families will be seated separately from current students, staff, and faculty — with socially distant assigned seats. Seating will be by family group, with at least two seats between each family group. Restrooms will be accessible to visiting families. Additionally, all guests will be required to maintain masking, even outdoors, during contests.
A decision has not yet been made on whether spectators can attend indoor winter sporting events. We will continue to closely monitor our positivity rates, both internal at the Institute and external in the area, state, and country. We will consider further steps as we approach the winter sports season. The Institute will continue to take a prudent, step-by-step approach to mitigate risk with defined, safe, and consistent protocols and policies.
Thank you for your continued compliance as we near the semester’s end.
