Reminder About Religious Observances and Holidays

Rensselaer values and respects the diversity of its faculty, staff, and students — as such, the Institute seeks to accommodate the religious beliefs and needs of the Rensselaer community. Institute policy regarding religious observances applies to all leaders, faculty, staff, and students.
Rensselaer is a nondenominational university that welcomes all faiths.
Therefore, Rensselaer will make reasonable efforts to make sure that religious participation is not unreasonably restricted for any leader, faculty, staff, or student who wishes to be absent from the workplace or classroom on religious observances and/or holidays. In the case of conflicts between the Institute’s calendar and an individual's religious beliefs, Institute leaders are expected to make reasonable efforts to assure that religious participation of students, faculty, and staff is not unreasonably restricted.
Staff may request Paid Time Off (PTO) and faculty may request scheduled time off for a religious holiday or observance by contacting their immediate supervisor for approval. Students may request, from the faculty member of their course(s), time off for a religious holiday and/or observance.
