This is to inform you that Rensselaer has retained Parker Executive Search to assist us in identifying candidates for the position of Vice President for Research. The Vice President for Research is responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction of the Research Portfolio of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In addition, the Vice President for Research plays an essential role in leading the Institute’s centralized research, scholarly, and creative programs; facilitating and directing the Institute’s research and discovery initiatives for both funded and unfunded efforts; identifying and developing innovative research strategies to create a research-enriched learning experience for students and faculty, and cultivating strategic and sustainable relationships between the Institute and private, public, and industry partners.
The Vice President for Research will oversee a broad array of Institutewide research centers, including, but not limited to: the Center for Automation Technologies; the Scientific Computation Research Center; the Darrin Fresh Water Institute; the Center for Architecture Science and Ecology; the Center for Future Energy Systems; the Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Imaging in Medicine; and the Center for Network Science and Technology. Additionally, the Vice President for Research will provide administrative, financial, and overall direction for several major interdisciplinary research centers and platforms including: the Cognitive and Immersive Systems Laboratory; the Rensselaer Institute for Data Exploration and Applications; the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies; the Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems; the Center for Computational Innovations; the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center; and the Scientific Computation Research Center.
Currently, Parker Executive Search Firm is conducting an extensive outreach effort to the top 150 public and private research universities, national research laboratories, and relevant STEM institutions. I have asked Curtis Powell, Vice President for Human Resources, and Jonathan Dordick, Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Resource Initiatives and former Vice President for Research, to identify members to serve on a Core Recruitment Committee, whose charge will be to review and recommend prospective candidates by the fall semester.
