Re: Return to In-Person Instruction

Thank you for your compliance with the Institute’s health and safety protocols during the two-week suspension of in-person instruction and access to campus facilities. As a result of our collective diligence, testing results have begun to improve. We will continue our quarantine through the week, ending at midnight on Sunday, March 21, 2021.

ACADEMICS
In-person instruction will resume on Monday, March 22, 2021, if the following conditions are met:

  1. Continued suppression of positive test results for the balance of this week and the final reporting of test results from Thursday and Friday samples that are returned this weekend; and
  2. Continued adherence to our quarantine and existing safety protocols by our students, on and off campus, through the weekend.

TESTING
All registered and Arch students who live in the area (within a 25-mile radius of the Troy campus) will continue with required COVID-19 testing on a twice-per-week basis, even if they are remote learners and currently do not have campus access. This is in addition to the continued testing of students who currently do have campus access. Mandatory testing will continue throughout the semester.

SERVICES
Dining facilities, shuttle bus services, and the student mail room will resume normal operations on Monday, March 22, 2021.

CAMPUS FACILITIES
Should we see continued compliance with our protocols and low case counts, we will gradually begin to re-open access to campus facilities. Additional guidance on the phased re-opening will be distributed in the coming week.

TRAVEL
There will continue to be no university-sponsored travel. While we understand there may be extenuating circumstances that arise, travel should only be for exigent circumstances (e.g., funerals, medical treatment). If you are a residential student who must travel, please contact Student Living and Learning at (518) 276-6284 to establish a plan to be reincorporated into our return-to-campus protocol. If you live off campus, and have campus access, and must travel, please contact your Class Dean to establish a plan to be reincorporated into our return-to-campus protocol.

ATHLETICS
We have developed a plan to allow our athletic teams to participate in training and conditioning, and a possible delayed entry into Liberty League competition. The degree to which we may participate in Liberty League competition continues to be dependent on the overall public health situation — internal to Rensselaer, the communities around us, and the communities inside and around the schools against whom we compete. Additional details will be distributed in the coming week.

Thank you for the care that you have demonstrated toward each other as we work together to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on our community. Our focus remains on keeping our community healthy, as we fulfill our important educational and research mission.

I look forward to seeing you at the Spring Town Meeting next Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 3 p.m.
