I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Dr. Sandra Brown as Associate General Counsel. Dr. Brown will begin employment with the Institute on Monday, June 1, 2020.

Dr. Brown has over 19 years of experience in the high-tech, software, hardware, pharma, and life sciences industries. She currently serves as Senior Legal Counsel at Nexthink Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts. As Senior Legal Counsel, Dr. Brown represents North America and the global head of Intellectual Property with this multinational information technology systems management company that has offices in 10 countries.

Prior to her most current position, Dr. Brown served as Vice President of IP and Legal Affairs at Akili Interactive Labs Inc., a digital medicine company, where she oversaw the full range of legal services for the firm. Dr. Brown served as Special Counsel for McCarter & English law firm within the Intellectual Property and Information Technology practices. She served as Senior Counsel for Cooley, Foley & Lardner, where she focused on strategic portfolio development and management for leading research universities, and electronic and software companies. Dr. Brown served as the In-House Counsel for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where she oversaw IP, and as legal liaison with scientists and researchers in next-generation research laboratories. Dr. Brown began her legal career at Jones Day as a legal Associate in the areas of Intellectual Property and Life Sciences.

Dr. Brown received a Juris Doctorate degree from Fordham University School of Law, a Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Physics from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
