Pamela Smith appointed Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Pamela Smith for the position of Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications. Ms. Smith will report to Ms. Richie Hunter, Vice President for Strategic Communications and External Relations. She will begin on Thursday, June 15, 2017.
Ms. Smith has most recently held the position of Marketing Director and Marketing Program Manager at Anthem Inc. (formerly WellPoint), a leading health benefits company. As Marketing Director for Anthem Inc., Ms. Smith developed, managed, tracked, and measured consumer-facing, integrated multimedia marketing campaigns to increase engagement and enhance brands; organized, motivated, and led cross-functional project teams; and utilized research and analytics to inform strategic marketing decisions. In addition, she managed national strategic alliances with Disney and celebrity partners; developed content for print and digital communications; managed editorial calendars; coordinated production of marketing collateral; and, managed project budgets.
Prior to her career at Anthem Inc., Ms. Smith was the Director of Public Relations (PR) and Employee Communications at UnumProvident, a leading global disability insurer. As director, she managed employee communications and PR for local and trade media opportunities. She supported community relations and managed interns, vendors, budgets, and staff. Ms. Smith partnered with HR and Market Research on the company’s first employee communications survey and plan. Ms. Smith established UnumProvident’s first global PR workgroup to drive collaboration in the U.S. and abroad.
Ms. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Studies from Wright State University. She received a Strategic Communications Management certification from the International Association of Business Communicators/Ithaca College.
